Modern Library Launched at Mahendra Shishu Secondary School

Tikapur (Kailali), January 4 —
A modern library has come into operation at Mahendra Shishu Secondary School in Janaki Rural Municipality–6, Kailali.

The library includes an e-library with access to more than 10,000 books, along with textbooks and reference materials. It has been launched to support teaching and learning and to make classroom activities more practical and technology-friendly. The library was established with the coordination of Gagan Foundation, set up in memory of late writer Gagan Singh Thapa.

More than 4,000 new books have been added to the physical library, while the e-library allows students to access thousands of digital books, helping them study beyond their regular curriculum.

Nepal Library Foundation provided technical support to organize the library. Teachers and school staff were given a week-long training on library management, e-library operation, and the use of digital resources.

Financial support for the library was provided by the Ruparelia Foundation of Uganda.

Inaugurating the library, Janaki Rural Municipality Chairperson Ganesh Chaudhary said the facility would help improve students’ learning and contribute to a better future for children. He added that the local government has been running various programs to improve the quality of community schools.

Hikmat Thapa, patron of Gagan Foundation, said he was pleased to see a library established at the school where he once studied. He said the library would help students gain knowledge beyond textbooks and stressed the importance of its regular operation and proper management.

With support from the Ruparelia Foundation and Nepal Library Foundation, Gagan Foundation has already established similar libraries with e-library facilities at Arunodaya Secondary School in Khairiphanta (Janaki–9) and Birendra Vidya Mandir Secondary School in Tikapur.

The program was held under the chairmanship of Gurupasad Chaudhary, head of the School Management Committee. Speakers included Dr. Bishnu Bilas Adhikari, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at Sudurpaschim University; Dhankumar Shrestha, General Secretary of Nepal Library Foundation; journalist Bhuvaneshwar Adhikari; and school principal Khagendra Prasad Upadhyay.
